Another day spent layering on this one.Ive worked this one from H grade right through to 3B in the darkest areas.work is now progressing on the face and muzzle of the dog having set my darkest tones.Ive left the bottom right hand corner as this too will be very dark using soft grades and so rather than risk too much smudging i'm going to leave this til last.

Clive, this is coming along nicely. I'm surprised that you did not work on the eyes right away...is that your little reward to yourself to do them last?
you got it in one kelly!
Clive things are looking really good. I was wondering if you burnish any of your layers as you build them up?
I enjoyed the pictures from the show, it is always neat to see what is happening in other parts of the world. So far away but yet very similar to us.
This is just beautiful Clive, you really are a master of graphite. The fur looks so smooth and touchable.
Very nice blog. Wonderful art.
I also wondered about doing the eyes last.
great reward.
hi wendy and thanks.i dont burnish any of the layers as i build up but i do frequently go over softer grades with a harder grade such as H or Hb to unify and lose some of the grainyness(not sure if thats a real word but it sounds good)which can leave the piece looking glossy and smooth and is probably akin in effect to burnishing.glad you liked the pictures its quite a small but very specialised show but i love the art.
thankyou karie-ann,this ones taken a lot of layers to build up,sometimes overlayering with the same grade several times to acheive the smooth coat look.
many thanks gary, glad you liked the work and welcome, always nice to hear from fellow artists
