Giraffe and calf pencil drawing complete

As you can see this latest drawing is now complete. After completion of the calf i had a good look over the image as a whole and, as i thought i may have to,i darkened up and reinforced shadowed areas on both animals. This has served to bring the animals proximity to each other into clearer focus and bring more depth and life to the piece.i aim to close crop this one and have it framed up to emphasise the vertical format echoing the vertical nature of the subject!.it's been a little while since i drew an image with no background whatsoever but in this instance i think anything added would only serve to detract from the subject matter.

Perfect! I agree about the background. It is not needed. This stands majestically on its own. Is this a very large finished piece? I love how you snuck the shadow in on the hind end of the baby. I like how you save your heavy shadows for last. You are a master at pulling together your subjects. It is as if your looking at nature without all the background noise! This is my favorite of yours. Of course, the subject helped to edge out the others!

thankyou all for your comments
andy thankyou and nice to see another birder here!
brenda the finished piece is approx 20.5"x11" i always like to go over the image once its complete to adjust tones here and there just to unify the piece.i'll often leave the completed image on the board overnight and look at it again in the morning and adjust with 'fresh' eyes
cheers paul!

Beautiful work Clive. I was guided to your site by Vic from Art With a Pencil and was absolutely inspired by your work. It is always lovely to discover a new artist who works in the photo realistic style such as yours. Fabulous!!!!!

Great finish!! I love your piece. I know what you mean, I live to live with my picture for a day or two before it call it done. Don't fiddle with it too much as it looks great already.
