Another long day in the studio see's Buster the german pointer starting to emerge from the paper with the aid of lots and lots of graphite layering.in some of the darkest areas completed so far i have used pencils as soft as 4B on top of every other grade of pencil from H thru to 3B.i like to set a couple of the darkest toned areas at the outset of a drawing as it helps with judging the overall tones to be used elsewhere and means i can approach other areas a little less tentatively. There is an awful lot more layering of graphite to go before Buster finally arrives but you can see the way the drawing progresses here.

Looking good. I wish that I had one tenth of your talent. The fact that you are self taught gives me hope that I may be half decent one day. Your work just blows me away. I have been sharing this blog with anyone who cares to listen since I stumbled across it. Wishing you the best of luck and many sales.
thankyou very much for taking the time to comment, always nice to hear from a fellow artist and thanks for spreading the word its much appreciated
best wishes
I love your work, and am so surprized at the small ones!! the 6"x6"'s for example---how in the world can you do such detail on such small pieces? You are amazing at how much work you can put out! I draw in graphite, sometimes OK---but this , this is what we all dream about doing!!! I wihs so much I could watch you work, even for a few minets!!! long life to you!
your lovely comments are very much appreciated Ida,i do sometimes work on small scale pieces although perhaps by 6"x6" you were referring to my greetings cards which are printed on a much smaller scale than the original drawings.most of my small works are of my local birdlife that surrounds me here on the south coast of england.kind regards
Wow!!! It is simply amazing how you bring life into these lines and shades....Keep the good work going Clive...Just stumbled across your blog and loved it!
Your work is beautiful!
I pencil sketched years ago, but nothing like this. I'll be back to watch the progress.
sandeep,thankyou very much
renee, thankyou and i hope you enjoy watching this one to completion:-)
You're such a talented draughtsman, your header is stunning. I love the precision of working in pen and ink and find graphite very frustrating so I'm really very impressed and jealous of your abilities.
