Hare painting update

A quick update on the progress of the smaller Hare painting i'm working on.ive completed the underpainting and am now working on the next coat of oil and adding details to the head and ears. These are almost complete and once ive worked up the body fur i'll add in all the whiskers which should tie it all together nicely.

framed lemur painting

Just collected my little lemur study from the framers and thought i would show you all the end result as i was absolutely delighted with how beautiful the hand finished frame looked and more importantly how much it complimented the painting. The original is now available.

Two new Hare paintings underway

At the moment i have several oil pantings in very early stages including these two hare paintings.the topmost painting is a bit of an experimental one, where i aim to play with light and shadows and colours.I'm uncertain as to whether this one will work or just turn out as a hideous mishmash of colours but sometimes the images that start off a bit warily end up being the best, only time will tell.My second hare painting is a little more of a conventional study and quite a small piece so well within my comfort zone.I seem to be progressing the paintings at quite a slow pace right now as i go through one of my 'fidgety' stages where i find my concentration wandering(or not making an appearance in the first place)and so i'm constantly back and forth to the easel and consequently not getting very far with any of my fledgling paintings.i have several projects on the go away from my painting and i think thats the root cause of my wandering mind but hopefully tings will improve shortly.

Touchdown-Barn owl 20" x 28" oil on board

Completed this painting this morning.I thought long and hard about developing even more detail in the tree stump but in the end i think it's convincing enough as it stands. This is the largest oil painting ive tackled to date and is the last of a batch of three paintings ive had on the easel over the last two months to be completed. After a short break it will be back to preparing new boards for several new paintings i have in mind and preparing for the show season.this will be the first year that my paintings will appear at all my regular shows and i'm looking forward to discovering what sort of reception they are going to receive.
