had a very busy few days since my last posting but i'm back at the board again and have been busy building up areas of tone on the cats head.ive pretty much completed the top of the cat's head and am now starting to work on the cheeks, much layering to go here.i'm using all grades of pencil from H through to 5B in order to get that lovely rich, velvety black in the darkest areas.

Looking great Clive. How on earth do you prevent smudging as you work on your graphite drawings? I just know I'd end up with graphite everywhere - including all over me - if I attempted anything like this!
hi peter and thanks.when i draw i always keep a sheet of cheap paper under my drawing hand and lift and move it as i work around the drawing, when it gets a bit dirty i change it for a new one so that it doesnt deposit graphite where i dont want it.i use photocopy paper as its about the cheapest thing i can find.i also think that because i layer my work pressing quite hard sometimes and not often using softer leads there is less loose graphite about.
This piece must be eating up a lot of pencils :)
Looking great already. I'll keep watching.
haha yes indeed! it's the 2B's that i really get through
