Touchdown-Barn owl 20" x 28" oil on board
Completed this painting this morning.I thought long and hard about developing even more detail in the tree stump but in the end i think it's convincing enough as it stands. This is the largest oil painting ive tackled to date and is the last of a batch of three paintings ive had on the easel over the last two months to be completed. After a short break it will be back to preparing new boards for several new paintings i have in mind and preparing for the show season.this will be the first year that my paintings will appear at all my regular shows and i'm looking forward to discovering what sort of reception they are going to receive.

Painting progressions
I thought i would post progression shots of all three oils i am currently working on.I took all three with me last week on my residency at Nature in Art with the intention of getting them all finished up whilst there however none of them actually quite made it to the finish line. The Barn owl piece only needs the woodwork to be completed whilst the Little Egret painting only requires some strengthening of contrast and addition of some minor details to the bird itself and finally the little Lemur study needs some more work on the body to complete.i hope, time allowing,to have all three completed by the end of the month as i have other projects i'd like to get into.

Black Leopard
I thought you might like to see my three latest paintings in they're newly acquired frames. These are hand coloured and finished frames inlaid with gold and silver leaf and are beautiful one-off creations from a very talented bespoke framer.I was so pleased with the results when i visited the framers to pick them up that i just had to share.sorry for the poor quality shots but they're just taken in the studio with my own camera. These three will be joining my other works at my residency at Nature in Art starting on 13th march.

Egret painting background completed
The background to my little egret painting is now complete.I will put this to one side now to dry thoroughly before i make a start on the egret itself.the background here is based on Langstone harbour at low tide and i was trying to capture the sense of a crisp, bright autumn's day.
