Reflections-Black-headed Gull 17.5" x 6"

i wanted to try a relatively simple composition with oils and so i chose a subject i'm very familiar with and that is one of the many local black headed gulls at this time of year.i may still tinker a little with it but as a learning exercise i'm very happy with the result

Love the zig zag of the duck, rock and reflection, a lot of movement for the eyes to be pleased with. Very nice!

I had a hard time noticing the stump he sits on. Would it be beneficial to add some lighting to it, as if it is wet? Or can I not see the picture well enough. Nice composition. I think your paintings are as good as the graphite.

Looks really good Clive.
Will you do more work in oil than graphite now or will it depend on the subject?

Beautiful Clive! I love the size of it. Sorry I haven't been on for awhile... Hope I didn't miss too much.

thankyou to all for adding your thoughts.
i am for the moment at least concentrating on oils as i feel it necessary to add another string to my bow and i needed a new challenge

Hi Clive,

I learned of you via WetCanvas and thought your graphite rendition of the Black Leopard is amazing. It's great you are pushing yourself in new challenges. The Black-Headed Gull is also amazing, I thought it was a photo at first.

you are a great inspiration, thanks for sharing.

Clive,

WetCanvas is an online forum where many professional and amateur artists discuss topics and critique each others work. I mainly go to the Colored Pencil, Pastel, and Animal & Wildlife forums. Here is a link if you are interested, it is free.
